THEY UNDERSTOOD THE RISK,
ACCEPTED THE RESPONSIBILITY,
AND THUS BECAME MOUNTAINEERS

Statement of Purpose
The Climbing School endeavors to help you set high standards of technical proficiency and sound judgment. We offer comprehensive courses of instruction (not testing grounds) that are intended to help each student achieve the safest and most rewarding climbing possible on rock or alpine terrain.

The Climbing School is not an adventure camp - we are a climbing school guided by the proven and honored philosophy of "sound climbing."

Founder and Director
John Pleasant has been climbing for twenty eight years and teaching professionally for sixteen of those years. He is equally skilled on technical rock, mixed alpine (ice, snow, rock) and high altitude mountaineering. He brings to The Climbing School a wealth of credible experience. As a 1977 graduate of a Pacific Northwest mountain school, John believes that anyone pursuing a high risk endeavor deserves the support of those with experience, because as he says, "Every Step Counts..."

Courses & Training
Our courses provide a very thorough introduction to the full spectrum of rock climbing and alpine skills. Every course, trip and expedition is designed and purposed to engage the thinking process and to equip each student with a broad range of fundamental skills and understanding. We must emphasize that all of our courses are high paced and require a mature commitment.

All courses of instruction take place in a variety of mountainous settings within North America.

Instructors
Our instructors are chosen for their experience as well as for their competence as guides. They are not only a joy to climb with - learning from them is extremely rewarding! As instructors and guides, we continually climb furthering our own experience. The Climbing School does provides training for guides.

Notice of Liability
Although we strive throughout our courses to maintain an appropriate margin of safety, it must also be understood that climbing and traveling in wilderness and mountainous terrain presents the potential for injury or death.

Our Goal
Our goal is to provide you with a solid foundation for future self sufficient mountain exploits.
